Life After Dark
This year, The Summit: Center for Wellness invites our community to explore the beauty, mystery, and wellness opportunities that unfold after the sun sets. Life After Dark programming will feature free, community-oriented experiences designed to connect people with nature, creativity, and each other with a focus on the wonders of the natural world after dark.
All events are free and open to the community. Stay tuned as we continue adding more unique opportunities to experience Life After Dark with The Summit!

Full Moon Hike & Snowshoe
Sunday, February 1, 5:30 pm
Summit Loop, Laporte
Join us for a friendly hike or snowshoe around the Summit Loop while enjoying the beauty of the full moon.
Participants should wear waterproof and sturdy hiking shoes or boots. If there is enough snow cover, feel free to bring a pair of snowshoes. Bring a headlamp or flashlight.
In case of inclement weather, the walk will be canceled.
Meet at the top of the driveway in the parking area.
Owl Paper Collage Art Workshop
Thursday, March 12, 6 pm
Pealer Hall, 309 E. Main St, Dushore
Led By: Amy Tomalin
Join Amy Tomalin for this creative and fun art activity.
Using various types of paper scraps, Amy will guide participants in creating a colorful and beautiful owl portrait. This art session is suitable for teenagers and adults. Supplies will be provided.
Preregistration is required. Workshop is limited to 15 participants.
Northern Saw-Whet Owl Presentation
Tuesday, March 24, 4 pm
Sullivan County High School Auditorium
Sandy Lockerman, a licensed bird bander along with her husband, Gary, visited back in 2025 to talk about hummingbird migration in PA. Now she’s coming back to share her other special bird project, the northern saw-whet owl.
Join us to explore this nocturnal bird and the project spearheaded by the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art in Millersburg. Learn interesting facts about PA’s smallest owl, some of their biology and migration secrets and examine discoveries made after 30 years of this nighttime banding project.

International Dark Sky Week
April 13-20
Presented by DarkSky.Org, International Dark Sky Week is a global celebration of the night.
From the darkness needed for a restful night’s sleep to the activities we enjoy beneath the stars, the night is filled with wonder and importance. Dark nights sustain critical wildlife ecosystems, strengthen the well-being of our communities, enable scientific discovery, and preserve shared cultural knowledge and traditions.
Follow along on social media this week as we share information about the importance of protecting dark skies, simple ways to reduce light pollution, and how you can help keep the night sky visible for generations to come.

Lyrids Meteor Shower
Duration: April 15-29
Peak: April 22-23
One of the oldest recorded meteor showers, the Lyrids return each spring as Earth passes through debris from Comet Thatcher. Known for fast, bright meteors and the occasional fireball, the Lyrids peak overnight April 22–23, 2026. The best viewing is from midnight through dawn, when observers under dark skies may see 10–20 meteors per hour.
While this is not an organized event, you are welcome to bring a blanket or chair on your own and view the meteor shower at The Summit.
Story Walk: Little Owl’s Night
May 15 - June 30
The Summit Loop, Laporte
Enjoy a self-guided StoryWalk® along The Summit Loop, featuring Little Owl’s Night. Organized in collaboration with the Sullivan County Library, readers young and old are invited to stroll the trail, read the story page by page, and explore the sights and sounds of the forest.
The StoryWalk® is made possible through a grant from the Friends of the Sullivan County Library with funding from the Lycoming County United Way which serves Sullivan County.
Blue Moon Party

Join us for a Blue Moon Party at The Summit - an evening dedicated to celebrating our volunteers and the community. Details are coming soon, but expect a fun, heartfelt gathering under the night sky to say thank you and honor the community spirit that keeps The Summit moving forward.
Luna Moth Collage Art Workshop

Yoga at Meditation Ledge
Thursday, June 25, 6:30 pm
Come for a tranquil evening of yoga, breathing, and outdoor relaxation in the peaceful serenity of Meditation Ledge, located just off the Summit Loop trail.
Park at the top of the driveway and take a short walk along the Summit Loop to Meditation Ledge.
Bring a yoga mat, bug spray, water, and dress in layers. You may also want to bring a blanket or rug for under your yoga mat.
Drawn to the Light: A Night with Moths

The Summit, Laporte
Join us for an enchanting night dedicated to the wonder of moths with Cheryl Metcalf of the Tunbridge Conservation Commission (VT). We will explore the remarkable biodiversity and captivating beauty of night-flying moths.
Utilizing a scientific technique called light sheeting, we will observe various moth species, uncover their unique characteristics, and delve into the essential role that moths play in conservation efforts.
All ages are welcome!

Red Creek Wildlife Center Owl Program
Wednesday, July 22, 7 pm
The DeWire Center, Eagles Mere
Learn about the 8 different species of owls found in PA! This 50-minute long presentation by the Red Creek Wildlife Center and co-sponsored by the Eagles Mere Conservancy will include interesting facts and how to identify the beautiful creatures by sight as well as sound. This program will be presented by Lylee Leonard, our public program director, with the help of two education ambassador owls. You will get to see these beautiful birds of prey up close and in person and leave the talk with a new knowledge and appreciation of our owls!
Red Creek Wildlife Center was founded in 1991. Our mission has been to offer a second chance to distressed Pennsylvania Wildlife through rescue and rehabilitation, public education and by providing training for wildlife rehabilitators. Taking over 4,000 wild animal patients per year, our goal is to get these critters ready to survive and thrive back out in the wild.

Join us for a relaxed conversation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Atmosphere. Set against the backdrop of ambition, relationships, and life changing moments, this novel invites thoughtful discussion and shared reflection.
We’ll gather at the future site of the outdoor amphitheater for an evening of book talk and snacks.
